Back to Waveland, MS

We're heading back to Waveland, MS in about 2 weeks. It's time to get back there and help those good folks get into their homes.

A lot of these guys have been displaced for 3 years now and the FEMA trailers weren't supposed to be permanent structures...

God has given a lot to us and we're trying to give it right back. This is as good an opportunity as I could imagine to do that.

Look for new pictures of our trip at the end of July...

The Church Project Is Up and Running!

We submitted architectural plans to Environmental Health recently and are waiting on their review. The Church committee is really excited and happy with the plans/detail the architect, Randally Bray has put together.

They have worked and reworked the plan to make it the best for the congregation and the purposes of the Church.

We are eager to get in there and start driving nails...

Oconee County Permitting

Right now we're working through the various permitting required by Environmental Health - Field run topographic survey showing 2' elevation changes, Level III work on additional 3 acres of adjacent lot, etc.

The goal is to improve the septic and drainfield capacity for the Church. County and state requirements are based on PEAK versus AVERAGE capacity in the way of church occupancy. Having the site plan engineered will allow us to show these additional items. Once this is done, hopefully our building plans will be engineered and we'll be ready to start construction.

Closed!

The building changed hands yesterday. We closed on the building and we're off and running.

For the next several weeks we'll be getting our ducks in a row with Topo Studies, Level III Soil Data, updated Site Plans, and submittals to Environmental Health, Planning/Zoning, Code Enforcement, possibly DRC Committee, and Oconee County Building Inspection.

Confused yet? Join the club. Not really.

The Oconee County folks are a good bunch to be working with. We're lucky to have understanding, competent, helpful people at the Local Government level.

Good night!

Oconee County Commission Approves AthensCOC Permit

On March 4th, the Oconee County Commission unanimously approved our Special Use Permit for the building on Mars Hill Road. The church will close on the property on Monday, March 10th, 2008! We are begining the architectural drawings to turn the building into a functional space for our worship services, classrooms, fellowship, and teaching. This is an answered prayer, and the first step towards getting in our new home!

Preliminary AthensCOC Church Construction Meeting 2/21/08

We had a meeting with Randall (architect), owner (Stan K.), HVAC guy who originally installed the system, Ken Lauderdale, and others today on site. Good meeting. Erwin Clarke came out; I value his opinion. His dining hall at The Swamp is about 18,000 squarefeet, so his advice is valuable. But not just for that reason - he seems to be good at just about everything. Even his Yoda voice, which he's never afraid to do. Ken Lauderdale, Randall and I went out to lunch at... The Big Easy. That' right. In Watkinsville. I 'd say this might be the best surprise of 2008 for me so far this year. It was AWESOME. I'll be back there. Often. Anyway, we met to talk through literally FOURTEEN points of interest regarding the Project. Site Build vs. Modular Classrooms, Bathrooms, Assembly Size/Shape/Content, HVAC scenarios, classroom size and quantity, design options, parking, etc. We covered a lot of ground which is good, because there's a lot of ground to cover.
